As a result of her own previous experience as an art agent and as a response to the needs of today’s contemporary artists, Caroline Pagès founded The Artroom at the beginning of 2006, an agency and a showroom dedicated to both established and emerging Portuguese and international artists. This project’s visibility became patent through the production and curatorship of exhibitions in galleries, art centres and museums in Portugal and abroad. In early 2007, The Artroom evolved into a contemporary art gallery – the Caroline Pagès Gallery – moving to a new location, a spacious seven-room apartment in Campo de Ourique, Lisbon. The Caroline Pagès Gallery represents established and emerging Portuguese and international artists that are considered to be important to the national art scene. The gallery artists employ a wide range of techniques which include painting, photography, drawing, sculpture and installations. By forging relationships with the directors of other galleries, institutions and museums, curators, art critics, the specialist press and collectors, both in Portugal and abroad, the Caroline Pagès Gallery is also dedicated to the organisation, production, curatorship, promotion and commercialisation of exhibitions outside the gallery, as well as proposing and coordinating the participation of the artists it represents at other events, such as biennials and prizes. The aim of the gallery is to achieve international recognition for its artists, in order for them to have the opportunity of competing in the international contemporary art market and offer companies and private and institutional collectors works of art that represent an investment.
